Wedding Photographer in Ventura and Santa Barbara, California

All wedding photographers take pictures. I believe there is by far more to the job than taking pictures. What I do as a wedding photographer is capture the love and beauty of your wedding day. It's not a taking endeavor at all, rather, it is to record the light you reflected at your wedding, then preserve the images and return them to you to enjoy for years to come.
The expertise needed for wedding photography is an extraordinary combination of artistic ability, technical training and top of the line equipment. Photographers with all these skills are few and the most talented people in this field are hard to find. Beyond the technical expertise with cameras, equipment, and a knowledge of lighting both broad and sublime, wedding photography requires sensitivity, compassion, intuition and an eye developed over many years of photographing people. When Photographing ceremonies and receptions I use a minimum of two cameras and a combination of lenses, lighting and shooting styles. I carry multiple back ups of all my equipment.
I tend to shoot a lot, why pack all this photo equipment and lug it
from bride's home then to the wedding ceremony site and finally to the
wedding reception if you are only going to snap a few shots. As for
"style" per se I try to remain flexible, I "sketch" with the camera in
order to capture an event from as many angles as possible. I have done a
lot of different types of photography that require different disciplines
and I incorporate all of this in photographing weddings.
Classic & Artistic Photojournalist Wedding Photography
Most common today are two types of wedding photography, the first is Traditional, the second is Photojournalism. Traditional consists of classically posed images and a great deal of control by the photographer on the day of the wedding. Photojournalistic wedding photographers began to rise in popularity in the 80's and has its roots in story telling documentary style images and focuses mostly on candid and non-posed images. most photographers will fall somewhere in between these two styles.
Editorial Wedding Photography
A new style that is becoming popular for weddings is Editorial Photography.
This style of wedding coverage is inspired by Editorial and Advertising
photography rather than the classic traditional portrait type or
photojournalistic images. To create images one would see in Bride
Magazine, Town and Country or say Modern Bride requires studio type
lighting, make up artists and a fair amount of orchestration by the
photographer and assistants, It is a little like a photo shoot that ends
with you married. Because of this, unless wedding photographs are at the
top or very near the top of your list as important, this may not be the
way to go (however a high production wedding editorial can be a lot of
fun).
Having a background in all three: Photojournalist, Editorial and Studio
Photography, I photograph weddings in a combination of all these styles
from the Classic and Photojournalistic to a little Avant-garde, in both
Digital and /or Film.
